On Boxing day in 1957 Iona McDonald and Denny Muir enjoyed a day at the Gore Trotting Club boxing day meet. This picture in the Southland Daily News shows Iona and Denny who were the best of friends attending the races.  The caption on the photo says:
Enjoying the pleasantly warm conditions while they discuss their fancies chances for the second race are Mrs I. McDonald, Edendale (at left) and Mrs W. G. Muir, Chelmsford Street, Invercargill.  Mrs McDonald's honey beige ensemble was trimmed with leopard skin. Her baker boy's beret and accessories were dark brown.   Wile rice and coffee tonings made an attractive combinations in Mrs Muir's coat.  With it she teamed wild rice hat and gloves, and her other accessories were benedictine.
