It was definitely the loose forwards that paved the way for Old Boy's hopes to stay alive in the town rugby competition in 1976.  It was Denis Kelly, Carl Purcell and Tim Smellie that made it happen for the team.
John Mawhinney Old Boy's No 8 was in great form and it was his break off the back of the scrum 20 minutes after the first half to ensure a win 17-4 over Bluff.
It was the work of the loosies again that saw Mark Hall, winger go over for a nice try.
Support also came from the tight in John Kean (prop) and Shane Harvey (hooker).
Half-back, Bobby Murrell and first five Ross Murray combined well, and this was backed up by second five eight, Steve Tarrant.
Bluff did not lie down and it was lock Kauvai Mitiau who controlled the line out and Jeff Mead (flanker) who cleaned up a lot of untidy ball from his opposites.
Chris Hini sent out his usual quick and accurate pass to his first five Warren Alcock, who gave a sound display of running and passing.
OLD BOYS: Ewen Mathieson (2) Mark Hall (1) Geoff Scully (1con 1PG)
BLUFF: Jeff Mead (1)
