DEMONS on edge of winning competition in 1958.

With the Calder Mackay Shield series for the Senior A softball premiership coming to a close in 1958, Demons have established a handy two game lead, from Cardinal and Blue Sox with only two more matches to complete the round.

Demon side looked like a champion side last week when after trailing badly at the end of the third innings fought back to establish a lead over Blue Sox, which they maintained until the third innings.  
The Old-Boys nine then threw everything into a desperate final innings effort and established a narrow advantage when Demons came up for their final strike.
The guile of the Demon batters proved too strong for the Blue Sox, and although two batters were out, and with the red and blacks still behind a neat shot from Nyall Campbell enabled the winning runs to be scored.
The play of Demons showed that they will be the team to beat in the 1958 series.
Demons will play Panthers in the main game and Cardinals and Blue Sox will be the earlier match.
Panthers forced Demons to an extra innings in the last round but their irratic play must make them the under-dog in this game.
A win for Demons will give them a unassailable lead in the competition and the Calder Mackay Shield will go to the club for the first time.
Blue Sox and Cardinal will give it their best shot as all chance will be gone for the losing team.
