Craig Jones leaves Invercargill to boost his chances of making 1988 Seoul Olympics in swimming....1/24/2016 ![]() Craig Jones, 18 left for Auckland in 1986 to spend two years with his swimming coach, Lindsay Walker. Lindsay had recently shifted to Auckland where he was a pool superintendent. Craig was a member of the New Zealand swimming team to tour Australia that year, in his specialised events, butterfly and backstroke. Jones was the only Southland swimmer in 1986 to qualify and he was aiming for the 1988 Olympic games in Seoul. The shift would see him having greater competition.
