Playing for the second time this season on their home ground Southern Pirates were outplayed and beaten 30-0 by Woodlands.  The score does not really reflect the game as Southern Pirates made Woodlands work for their result.
WOODLANDS V SOUTHERN PIRATES
Good handling of the ball and their fast pace was the key that saw this large score.  It took Woodlands only 10 minutes to score their first try when A. Bonney scored from the wing position after the forwards had taken the attack to the Pirate's goal line.  After 22 minutes Lloyd Wyeth went in for a try after a great back line movement.
Woodland continued the pressure on Southern Pirates by moving the ball effectively through the backline and kept hammering away at the defence until a hole appeared for them to dart through.
The second half was all Woodlands with tries coming in quick succession, L. Ewan, B. O'Mara, R. Evans, P. Knight and two conversions by Lloyd Wyeth made up the rest of the points.
For Southern Pirates, L. Tuffney, R. Matthews and D. Haughton were the best of the forwards and B. Spain at halfback played well to provide a good link between his backs and forwards.
R. Evans playing his first senior game for Woodlands and J. Allan, S. Findlay and R. Sinclair all had good games for Woodlands.
TOKANUI V SOUTHERN STAR
The weather had been wet for a few days and these two teams found handling the ball difficult. Southern Star found Tokanui too tough and went down 26-6.
Tokanui inside backs, S. McKenzie and T. Walker looked good in scoring two of their teams tries and B. Shirley, P. Hayes and B. Wybrow were the best of the Souther Star forwards.  K. Templetion was sound at first five eight and Neil Crashie was the pick of the backs at second five eight.
LIMEHILLS V WINTON
In a scrappy game between these two rivals saw Winton win this tustle 6-3 in the Central competition. Limehills were unbeaten at this stage and because it was a home game were favoured to win.  It was a scrappy affair and the weather did not help.  For Winton F. Price and C. Brown each scored an unconverted try.  P. Baird scored an unconverted try for Limehills.
Winton's J. Porteous led his team well and was always in control of the game.  He played a vigorous game and his team deserved to win with their gutsy performance.
Hooker, Greig Spencer won plenty of ball for Limehills and try as he may it did not stop the Winton pack from ensuring they were quickly on top of the Limehills backs.  They continuously drove through and kicked long rangy kicks to gain them long stretches of advantage.
