The Town first grade netball team managed to beat Central 32-19 after being down at half time by three points.
Central would have been disappointed to lose their first game of the season, but would have been pleased to think that the Town team had seven representatives for Southland that was to go to the National Tournament in the August.
It was the fact that Town realised they would have to change their tactics after the first half.  Town got a lot more aggressive in their defence and got right into the faces of Central.  This showed with Town scoring 22 goals to Central's six in the second half.
Central's captain and wing attack, Christine Flynn played her usual silky game with her great ball skills and foresight.  Bridget Hishon, goal shoot had to work hard to get the ball as the Town defences were climbing all over her. She did well to take some mistimed passes and used her height to the best she could.
Teresa Irwin, at goal attack was good around the court but her shooting was not up to her usual standard. Centre Judy Laughton worked hard round the court and Judy Watson at wing defence supported her well.  Goal Defence, Agnes Irwin and Goal Keeper, Joan Olsen both tried hard but were completed outplayed in the circle.
For Town, Goal Shoot, Josephine Forde and Goal Attack, Suzanne Hall worked well to beat the Central defences time and time again.
Derina Fowler, at wing attack, supported her centre, Sandy Lawson and they back each other up well.
The three defences at the back for Town, June Caird, captain, Sue Reeves and Francis Craig all worked well together and put up a brick wall in the second half which Central could not penetrate.
