Alastair Tait had been playing cricket in Dunedin in 1968 where he was teaching, and it goes to show that he really was an all round sportsman with success on the cricket field as well.   Alastair captained a team for one day matches which consisted of only teachers.   Alistair had a batting average of 50.  It may surprise a few that Alistair Tait played senior cricket in Invercargill for Appleby and was selected for Southland where he had one game against Wellington as an opening batter.
