Do you ever go past Southland Boys High School and see the house on the corner, which is the music suite.  It is named the Alex Lindsay School of Music after Alex Lindsay who attended Southland Boys High School and went to London soon after leaving there.
On his return from London he founded a string orchestra in Wellington which achieved a high reputation, and it is even thought that it would be one of New Zealand's finest musical combination that the country had known.
The orchesta could play Mozart, Handels, and Blochs, with the concertino group consisting of Ritchie Hanns and Ronald Backhouse (violins) and Marie Vandewart (cello).
David Galbraith was at the piano and the music they performed was of very high quality and tribute to Alex Lindsay as a musician.
