It was noted that there was no cycling racing August 1936 due to the fact that the rugby was on and Southland were playing Otago in Dunedin.
One of the best races was seen though the previous week where A. Calder rode a very fine race to register his first win of the season.
A. Drury finished second.  B. Morgan and H. Patton left at 7 O'Clock the previous night on their cycles for Dunedin to watch the rugby, then on to Christchurch for the shield game and would be returning home on the Sunday.
C. W. Robinson and W. Frame rode to  Dunedin the previous week to ride the 25 mile championships, they found the Dunedin riders were too fast on the hills.
G. Homer of Dunedin won the championships while riding the whole race on his own.
Mr F. Robinson was given a farewell to go up North, Mr D. Harris presented  him with a 'well filled' wallet and wished him well.
