1981 Basketball finalists sorted out....

Rata and Old Boys qualified for the women's and men's A Grade competition finals from their wins over the weekend.  Rata will meet Brigadiers and Old Boy's will play Cosmopolitan.
In the semi-final match, Rata play Muskettes and it was played at a very fast pace which caused a lot of handling errors.  Most of the shots were outside the circle as players found it hard to penetrate the strong defence from both teams.  Shooting well for Rata was L. Corkery, (24 points),  and Muskettes top scorers were K. Balloch and V. Dalton (8 each).
Full time score was 36-28 in favour of Rata after a half time score of 22-16.
The men's semi final between Old Boys and Marist was exciting with both teams forcing play which meant a low score at half time.  Old Boys became frustrated in its shooting which led to scrappy play.  HT the score was 20-14 to Marist.  Old Boys evened the score in the 8th  minute of play and from then on took the lead.  While Marist tried everything to come back in the last minutes it was unable to make the necessary shots.
Roger Keith played well for Old Boys scoring 20 points and Warren Sproat netted 14 points for Marist.
Brigadiers sported a half time lead of 11-32 in a non-championship game and eventually winning 84-44.  For Brigadiers, Lylnley Chamberlain, scored 28 points and H. Maxwell22.  For Cosmopolitan E. Paaka scored 12 points.
The Mens game between Winton and Cubs saw another easy win for the town team.   Although Winton battled hard to beat the Cubs it was always going to be a hard task and they eventually lost 51-37.   Top Scorers for Cubs were J. Pulhan 23., D. Wyber., 12.  Winton T. Tenbeth and K. Patterson scored 12 each.
