Bob Townley, a Nightcaps racing trainer decided in 1953 to take his stable to Orari.  He has leased 80 acres of land at the Orari racecourse.  He continued as a public trainer and took some of his team with him.
Orari is situated near Geraldine in South Canterbury.  Bob first came to Invercargill in approx 1938 and first set up his training stables in Wyndham and then moved to Nightcaps.  Bob Townley has had a lot of success and has established himself as a competent trainer in Southland.
