PictureWarwick Dalton held by R. O'Connor - Invercargill Cycling

Warrick Dalton was riding beautifully in his first attempt to break his own 4000 metres record at Kew Bowl, Invercargill in 1959. The record is 4.58.  He had covered half the distance when he punctured.  Dalton is known for putting the pace on in the second half.  He tried again later in the day but by then a light breeze had freshened.  He had to settle for an Otago-Southland record of 5.16.4.
