The Southland Colts trials saw a Probables team play against a Possibles team in 1971.
The teams were evenly matched in the forwards, but it was the half back-first five eight combination that was the difference.
With R. Lee and R. Ibbotson in the possibles team and T. Butson and W. King in the probables team with the former combination having the upper hand.
The outstanding back on the field was T. Mulhern.
T. Law was solid at full back for the possibles with A. Henry making some good breaks at full-back for the probables.
The forward to stand out was B. Burke, where he showed speed to score under the posts.
