Rata v St Marys - Netball 1940 - Invercargill

Rata was not up to full strength in 1940.  Players that filled in for the senior team were: Mrs Raines (nee J. Kelly) who played well in the defence.  Both teams played hard and it was a good battle with the half time score 12-9 to Rata.
In the second half Rata centres, A. Pittaway, V. Fraser and A. McBurney combined well to give their shoots twice as many attempts as St Marys.  M. McGrath for St Marys,  shot well, but her opportunities were limited.  L. Mehaffey was outstanding for Rata with clever passing to A. McDonald who shot some great goals from the edge of the circle.  Final Score was Rata 25 - St Mary's 16.
