Ohai Nightcaps too good in 2001...

Ohai Nightcaps won the 2001 Southland Wide Division Two championship in 2001 by beating Te Anau 37-18. The fight was never over till the end and  Te Anau always looked a threat from the boot of Jason Forest who kicked three penalty goals and kept Te Anau in the hunt.
It was the latter team's inability to tackle that let Ohai Nightcaps score six unanswered tries.  It was Steve McKay that found the gaps and was rewarded with two brillant tries.
Craig Valli on the right wing scored the first try at the five minute mark.  Ohai Nightcap's No. 8, Brian Heslop tackled hard and kept his lighter pack in the game.  He was well supported by Pete Clarkson and Abe Wood.  The Te Anau forward pack worked hard and with Carl Shanks, Rhys Jones and Issac Sage all performing credible.
Nathan Sayers deserved the Ohai Nightcaps player of the day, at first five he was well supported by half back, Peter Stodart.
Coaches: Te Anau - Barry Hansen
                Ohai Nightcaps - Eric Todd.
