The Invercargill Amateur Cycling Club's 25 mile race to Ryal Bush, via Wallacetown and Lorneville was won by J. Holloway in 1960.  Rain and hail made it challenging for the riders and with not a lot of pace on J.Holloway broke away at Ryal Bush.
The picture shows Ray Alcock setting the pace with R. Taylor (right) and W. Tait (left).

Joining Holloway in the break away group were; Tony Ineson, Brian Toomey, Ray Alcock and Trevor Tindale.
It was not long after that they were caught by the main bunch, led by Harry Hubber, Graham Sycamore, K. Healey, J. Hall, and a new rider, R. Browning.

From the turn on the main Riverton Highway the leading three of Holloway, Hubber and Inneson broke away - with no one having a chance of catching them.

It was Holloway that had the gas to win the sprint to the finish line.
